Eliza Rosanna Gilbert became known as Lola Montez,
and was made Countess of Landsfeld.
Born 1821 - Died 1861,
exactly one month shy of her 40th birthday.

There are Lolas of stage and screen, quasi-Lolas and Lola namesakes, Lolas in works
of fiction and of non-fiction (though it's often hard to distinguish between the two).
There are true images of Lola as well as those misidentified as such, with sometimes-
hilarious artists' conceptions of lurid episodes from her eventful life-- not all of which
actually occurred. Plus there are Lola artifacts and products, both period and modern.

RIP Bruce Seymour 1946-2024
This was the singular man
who sought out Lola's secrets, and presented the world a truer
picture of this singular lady than had hitherto been known.
He is greatly missed.
His Lola Montez, a Life is best read in the paperback, which
includes new information that surfaced only after
publication of the hardbound first edition.
However,
in keeping with the author's generous policy of open access to his
works, the first printing can be found on the Internet Archive.
